Mapping Metal Mine Restoration
England has a long history of mining for minerals which has contributed to our economic wellbeing but has left us with a legacy of hundreds of thousands of closed mine sites and the resulting impact on the environment.
The Tyne Rivers Trust is working working to tackle the remains of metal mining in the Pennines which still pollutes the river today. Metal mining in this area dates back hundreds of years with the peak of activity in the 1800s, but due to the unstable nature of spoil heaps, metal rich sediment still finds its way into the South Tyne, unbalancing its natural ecology.
We were commissioned by the Coal Authority to capture the restoration works in Garrigill using our Wingtra One Gen II drone.
