Inspections are a key part of reliable and safe operations. Drones offer new capabilities that can enhance and improve the efficiency of inspections.

We were commissioned to complete an inspection of a large open tank and a set of steam lines at a process plant.

The inspection was completed using a DJI M210 drone using three cameras:

  • X30 Zoom

  • XT 640 Radiometric Thermal

  • X5 RGB camera

The inspection involved careful preparation of the risk assessment and method statement as this is a complete site with many issues including a number of ATEX zones (explosive gas areas).

  • Seeing the unseen

    Radiometric thermal cameras offer the ability to see and analyse temperature. In this engagement we were able to look at the performance of the insulation of the steam lines. This data helps direct remedial works and improves energy efficiency.

  • Access the inaccessable

    The combination of a drone and a good zoom camera provides the opportunity to quickly capture valuable inspection images without the need for expensive access methods.

  • Geolocated Data

    High quality images that are geolocated help engineers understand the context and location of issues more quickly.
